User guide

The scheme of learning aims to present a diverse range of problems for students to solve. They are all based on real-life scenarios so that learning is practical and not abstract. It could be perceived that many are mathematical, but this should be encouraged. It is every teacher's responsibility to promote numeracy and the application of mathematics. This reflects the Department for Education's ambition for education. This is also the nature of computation. Computers are calculating machines, so the art of programming is also the art of arithmetic and logic.

Many of the practice programs contain historical facts in their introduction and this provides context to the challenges.

Although the TIME 2 CODE curriculum of programs are carefully differentiated, scaffolded and pitched for 13-16 year olds studying GCSE qualifications and beyond, more fun programs for students to undertake are included from our partners Mission Encodeable.
